A little more about me…
I was born and raised in New Zealand, where my curiosity for the world and a passion for storytelling first took root. Since moving to Groningen in 2021 to pursue a master's degree in journalism, I've been living in the Netherlands, immersing myself in new cultures and opportunities that have further shaped my career in media.
Ever since I was young, I can remember wanting to be a journalist, however as I got older this grew into a fascination with working with words in any capacity. I primarily still see myself as a journalist, but over the course of my career have gained expertise in copywriting and other areas of the creative industries.
During my master’s degree at the University of Groningen, I was able to gain experience in video, written and audio storytelling. Of these mediums, audio left the biggest impact on me and influenced my decision to take on an internship at the Asymmetrical Haircuts. The podcast delves into the nuances of international law and justice through the happenings of the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.
While I am very passionate about audio storytelling, my life also revolves around my love for sports, something that carries through into my work. My affinity for sports largely stems from my amateur career as a competitive swimmer, where I swam at a national level for 13 years between the ages of 8 and 21. Not only did competitive swimming instil in me a passion for sports and sports storytelling, it also provided me with a sense of discipline, commitment and perfectionism which I draw on in my work every day.
Following my time with the Asymmetrical Haircuts podcast, I channelled my sports knowledge while working in the role as schedule editor at Gracenote. In this role I was responsible for the copywriting aspect of creating accurate, clear and catered schedules for some of the biggest sports television programm-
ing providers in the UK. Some of the clients I was involved with were Premier Sports UK, Manchester United TV, Liverpool TV, Eurosport and Sky Sport.
This position at Gracenote required me to understand the requirements of these high-profile clients, in which my sports and writing abilities were a huge advantage. In these kinds of environments, it is important to understand who the clients are trying to reach with their programming and what would be most important to them. In doing this process I drew on my experience with the Asymmetrical Haircuts podcast, where I managed the social media channels on Instagram and LinkedIn. These positions really allowed me the opportunity to understand the relationship between the audience and the product.
Having recently moved on from my position at Gracenote, I am looking to use my passion for writing and other forms of storytelling to start a position where I feel I can make a difference within the given company structure, but also in the world around me.
