My Education
Auckland University of Technology, Bachelor of Communications (2018)
In this bachelor’s degree program, I gained a wide range of expertise given the broad spectrum of electives available in the program. The first two years were varied, with subjects offered ranging from marketing to copywriting and design. In my final year I narrowed my focus, majoring in journalism.
University of Groningen, Master of Journalism (2023)
In this master’s degree I was able to engage with the practical and theoretical side of journalism. In doing so I developed a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of news writing, from hard news to features. I was also able to gain in depth experience of audio and video production. The completion of this program also enhanced my ability to work in a team environment and further improve my communication skills.
Work Experience
New Zealand Herald, Short Term Newsroom Intern (01/06/2018 - 01/07/2018)
Following the completion of my Bachelor’s Degree I undertook a short newsroom internship at the New Zealand Herald. During this time I was stationed at the entertainment desk and wrote articles on music, gaming and film. I also conducted background research for upcoming interviews. This experience was my first taste of newsroom writing and taught me a lot on how a newsroom functions day to day.
During my master’s program, together with members of the course we began and operated a news website throughout the year and a half of the program. During this time we all contributed to articles and stories to this venture. The website has since been taken offline, however some of my articles are available in the ‘My Work’ section of this website.
